‘Musical Chairs’ is an interactive installation based upon the game with the same name. Each one of the chairs (for which inspiration was taken to honour Enzo Mari’s ‘Autoprogettazione Collection’ and built using locally sourced scrap wood) emits a sound or beat when someone sits upon it.
The result of two or more chairs being sat upon sees the different sounds and rhythms working together, creating an ever-changing musical piece. The aesthetics of the chairs are meant to represent the intuitive and playful interaction that the installation creates.
The idea is to let the visitors themselves create the installation, allowing the participant to become a part of his own musical performance and create music together with others.
